Frequently Asked Questions
What is Aromatherapy?
According to National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA), aromatherapy is also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, and can be defined as the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.
It is a natural, non-invasive method designed to affect the whole person not just the symptom or disease and to assist the body's natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself by the correct use of essential oils.
What is an Essential Oil?
Essential oils are concentrated forms of plant essence found in the flowers, leaves, stems, seeds, roots and other parts of the plant. They are the life blood of the plant. They seal the cut, protect the wound, provide nutrients for cells and guard against harmful micro-organisms. Without the essential oils, the plant will not live.
Are Essential Oils the same as fragrance oils?
No. Essential oils are undiluted essence distilled from plants. Fragrance oils are synthetically created in a laboratory. Many essential oils in the market are highly adulterated or diluted with fragrance oil, so buying the finished product from a reputable company who practices high standard of quality control is very important for every consumer to consider.
Are Essential Oils only for aromatherapy?
Essential Oils are highly concentrated plant extracts intended for aromatherapeutic use. Due to the high potency of pure essential oils, consultation with a trained professional for recommended dilutions is necessary before using essential oils for any purpose other than aromatherapy, for example ingestion and topical use.
What are the different uses of Essential Oils?
There are many different uses of essential oils. Due to the natural aromatic properties, essential oils are added as fragrance to cosmetics and can also be diffused through water to improve indoor air.
Wellness and healing properties are associated with essential oils. In the case of colds and flu, steam inhalation of certain essential oils is often found to be soothing and to alleviate symptoms. Diluted essential oils can be applied to skin for more effective results, under the direction and instruction of a trained professional.
Can Essential Oils be eaten/ ingested?
The practice of casually recommending oil ingestion is careless and irresponsible. Therefore, the internal use of essential oils should only be administered under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner. This recommendation is in line with the regulatory requirements of the Malaysian health authorities and the recommendations of independent experts who specialize in essential oil safety.
Do Essential Oils have a grading system to tell which is better?
There is no official grading system that grades essential oils as A, B, C or Therapeutic grade. All truSÈNSSE pure essential oils are accurately labelled as such. It is the quality control process of how essential oils are manufactured that should be referred to as a guide in choosing what is best for us.
Does country of origin tell us about the quality of the oil?
There is no grading system that is currently in place to define the quality of essential oils. Country of origin is not necessarily the best method to “grade” an essential oil. It is the quality control process of how essential oils are manufactured that every consumer should refer to as a guide. This is why buying essential oils from a reputable company whom you can trust is of the utmost importance.
